YARN INSIGHTS – PART 1: BASIC YARNS

Yarn insights is a video series of 5 episodes where I will explain the kinds of different yarns out there. We will publish a new espisode each week so stay tuned.

In this first episode we will start with the basic knitting yarns. These are the foundation of most yarn companies and SKEINO is no different. You might have heard of single, 2-ply and multiply yarns and I will show and explain each of them for you in the video.

I hoped you enjoyed this little introduction to textile design. Next week we will look into I-cord and ribbon yarns. At the time when all 5 of the Yarn Insights episodes are published you should have a good overview of the different knitting yarns you can use for your favorite craft.

Please let me know your thoughts and questions in the comment section and as always:

OPERETTA SHAWL – ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

As you may know Staci Perry from Verypink.com posted a video tutorial last week featuring our Operetta Shawl knitting kit. As always she did an outstanding job and I hope you liked it as much as we did here at SKEINO. If you haven’t watched the video you can do so right here:

We received many questions from our knitting community and people who did purchase the kit were asking for some more detail regarding the pattern. Your wish is my command and so I made this little add-on video tutorial for you. As Staci mentioned it’s all about starting the project. Once you have made your way through the first rows you will see how easy this pattern is:

I hope you enjoyed the video and that you could take away something from my little tape. For any questions please comment below or right on our Youtube channel. If you like our video blog make sure to subscribe and never miss an episode.

HOW TO KNIT AND PURL

Today I want to talk about some knitting basics. Sometimes it is just a good idea to refresh our memory and revisit some things that might seem really easy.

Many customers have asked me: What exactly do knit and purl stitches mean?

We made this video tutorial where I will explain why knit and purl stitches are not explicitly mentioned in your knitting pattern and how to tell a knit stitch from a purl stitch. Also I will talk about front and back legs when knitting. This video is great if you are a beginner but I think it is also a nice way to refresh your memory if you are an experienced crafter.

I hope this tutorial could help a little bit to clarify what knit and purl stitches actually are. If you have any questions or video requests please write a comment below.

THE MISS GRACE SCARF

We received so many requests per email, on Youtube and right here in the blog: Please design a Miss Grace Scarf! I’m happy to reply that it is finally here!

The Miss Grace Scarf uses the same technique as the Shawl, called Tapestry Knitting. Click here to learn more about this technique if you are unfamiliar with it.

The Miss Grace Scarf is a lot easier to knit and I am sure that you can make it even if you are more on the beginner’s side. I made a video tutorial introducing the project and in it I will give you a short tutorial how to knit the pattern:

I hope you liked this new tutorial. As always please share your thoughts with me in the comments section here or on Youtube. Please do also subscribe to our Youtube channel, it would be much appreciated.

KNITTING HELP: LACY COWL AND MISS GRACE SHAWL

In today’s episode I want to explain some questions our knitters are asking me frequently. You could also say that I will talk about how to make a hole in part one and how to avoid one in part two.

In the first class I will explain what “Slip yarn over with another yarn over” means. This technique is used in the pattern of our Lacy Cowl. It is used to create the holes in the middle section of the cowl and it is actually very easy to do.

The second class is dedicated to our Miss Grace Shawl pattern. Many knitters said that they get holes when knitting the free forms. In the video I will explain how you can avoid that.

I hope that you liked this little knitting class. I enjoy making these videos for you and if you have anything that you would like me to talk about please let me know in the comments.
