MEET THE CRUISE SHAWL

If you followed our blog you will know that I was on a cruise from Florida to Barcelona / Spain not too long ago. Even though the purpose of our trip was to relax a little I just couldn’t get the knitting out of my mind. The cruise was so inspiring that I came up with a new design project and the quiet days aboard the ship gave me enough time to finish it.

In today’s video I will present the finished design which is called the Cruise Shawl. This knitting kit is constructed in a star shape. In the video I will talk about why I chose that form for the shawl. On the cruise they had a daily knitting group and we met a bunch of wonderful ladies there. You can learn more about them here and here.

I felt that it would be a nice gesture to name our Cruise Shawl after our new knitter friends and so we asked everybody for their favorite color and we chose a Cruise Shawl colorway for every lady of the knitting group accordingly.

The Cruise Shawl is available as a knitting kit on the SKEINO website so you can have a look at each of the colorways.

I had such a wonderful time (not only when knitting) and I can’t wait to go on another cruise, especially when it’s so inspiring to come up with new designs!

What do you think about the Cruise Shawl? Please let me know in the comments section or directly on Youtube.

INTRODUCTION TO LACE KNITTING

After finishing our mini-series Yarn Insights last week, today we will go back to some actual knitting. In this tutorial I will show you how to use the wonderful technique of lace knitting. It’s great to design feather light pieces that will be just perfect for the Summer.

Lace knitting reminds me a little of a fishnet and I do love it very much. In fact the second part of today’s video tutorial will be about our new Summerwind Shawl. I designed this piece using a skein of merino yarn and another one of kid mohair yarn. Together the two fibers are creating a wonderful structure that is both light and strong.

I hope you enjoyed my little introduction to lace knitting. Please let me know in the comments what you think about the Summerwind Shawl and of course lace knitting in general. Also if you haven’t done so already please consider subscribing to our Youtube Channel.

YARN INSIGHTS – PART 5: THE ITALIAN LADIES

Yarn insights is a video series of 5 episodes where I will explain the different kinds of yarns out there. We will publish a new episode every week so make sure to stay tuned to not miss anything.

This is the 5th episode of our mini-series Yarn Insights. In this final installment I will talk about merino superwash yarns. The ones that we use here at SKEINO are called the Italian Ladies. We partner with spinning mills in Italy and we named the yarns after the wonderful ladies at the mills.

We use the Italian Ladies superwash yarns for some of our most popular products, such as the Arabella Shawl and the Miss Grace Shawl. Ranging from lace to super bulky weight we work with a total of 8 merino superwash yarns – all of them have an Italian name.

This episode is a great watch if you want to know more about your favorite SKEINO shawl kit or if you would like to learn about the different merino superwash yarns you will find in most yarn stores near you.

This closes our Yarn Insights video series. I’m a textile designer with all my heart and I love digging into a subject like this. I hope you enjoyed it too. When you go shopping for your next yarn you will be able to use the information I gave you in these 5 videos to your advantage.

Please let me know your questions and comments here or directly on Youtube.

CRUISING & KNITTING 2

We are still on the cruise and right now the ship is crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The relaxing atmosphere and our wonderful new knitter friends are so inspiring that I started a new design. It will be called Cruise Shawl and I thought of the sun and the sea when choosing the colorway.

In this follow up video you will see more of our knitter friends and you will get a first glimpse of the now finished Cruise Shawl. We are on our way to Barcelona where we will get off the ship. See more of me and the Cruise Shawl in next week’s episode!

What do you think about the Cruise Shawl? Did I manage to catch the wonderful vibe of our ladies here on the ship? Please let us know in the comments or directly on Youtube. If you want to make sure not to miss any upcoming episodes please subscribe to SKEINO’s Youtube channel.
